March Madness, Romance Style: DA BWAHA

Every year, thanks to my guy, my house becomes a den of basketball insanity during March Madness, the NCAA College Basketball Tournament: Basketball is on our television at every opportunity. Most of his conversations begin, “Did you see that . . . shot (player, call, coach, etc.)” He checks his Treo obsessively when we’re out of the house, looking for game scores. He prints out his NCAA tournament bracket, and then over the weeks of “March Madness” scribbles on it, muttering to himself.

Well, this year it’s my turn, baby!

Smart Bitches, Trashy Books and Dear Author are holding their Dear Author Bitchery Writing Award for Hellagood Authors, aka DA BWAHA. Here’s how Jane, over at Dear Author describes it:

. . . this is a tournament of books that mimics the March Madness tournament of basketball. We’ve picked a slate of 64 books in 8 different categories to compete against each other through the next few weeks. We welcome all participants regardless of whether you are an author, reader, reviewer or someone who doesn’t even have an interest in romance books. We encourage authors who have books in the tournament to fill out a bracket and pick yourself to win. There’s no hubris here. Only fun.

This year, the Tournament has its own home at DA BWAHA . From today thru Wednesday, you can fill out your own bracket and be entered to win cool prizes for each round, with the ultimate prize, a Sony Reader, going to both the top scoring bracket sheet of the tournament and the winning author.

Last year, it was lots of fun to vote for my picks and root for them to make it to the finals. I was thrilled when Colleen Gleason made it all the way to the championship with The Rest Falls Away, though it ultimately went down to Nora Roberts’ High Noon. ETA: Correction, I misremembered. Colleen Gleason did win.

My 2009 bracket is filled out and I’ll be following the action as the voting commences. Head over to the DA BWAHA site had have some fun!

I’m finally doing DAHBWAHA this year. :) Blue-Eyed Devil for the win! *happy dance*

Just finished reading an awesome book. Blogged about it on G&BB. Still can’t get my mind off it. :)

Also have Katie Allen over there too! I interviewed her AND am giving away 2 of her books to 2 lucky winners. Happy happy!

And it’s late, so I should go to bed…maybe. My brain is on full overload. Ugh!

Bridget: Yes! Blue-Eyed Devil was my #1, too!

I’ll go check out the review.

Did you see what I’m reading, now? (Check my sidebar on left.) It’s really good! :-)

I’ve also entered. You’d think considering how much Blue-Eyed Devil impacted on me I’d pick it as my No. 1. I didn’t. My strategy…don’t know why I have a strategy as quite a few of the books I didn’t recognize!

orannia: Yeah, There’s definitely a difference between the ones I think are going to advance and the ones I want to advance. However, B-E D is one of the few that covers both bases. Since I don’t really read much in the way of category romance, I drew a blank with them. Others, I hadn’t read, but recalled the buzz from different blogs I read. Oh well! All in good fun! ;-)
