August 2009 New Releases
August 3, 2009 at 5:00 am
I was going to try to pick one or two books that are coming out this month that I’m most looking forward to, but I really couldn’t narrow it down. A few of my old favorites — Jeanne Stein, Patricia Briggs, Karen Marie Moning, Richelle Mead, and Kat Richardson, are releasing the latest installments on their series. Other, new to me authors — Victoria Dahl, Amanda Downum, and Sylvia Day, have some new releases that sound really interesting. I’m also excited that my recent discovery, Jill Sorenson, is releasing her second book, and that Rachel Vincent is debuting her new YA series
It used to be that I LOVED anthologies, but lately I just haven’t been able to work through all the stories. However, an anthology to be release this month has so many good authors, I just couldn’t leave it off the list.
Here are all of the August releases I’m looking forward to:

Once his childhood companion, Cynthia has grown into a lovely, alluring woman — one who’s undertaken a daring ruse to avoid being sold into a miserable marriage.
When Nicholas left for London to assume his new title, Cynthia was forced to put aside her girlish infatuation. Now he’s returned, more wickedly attractive than ever. And this time, Cynthia is determined to experience the pleasure she’s dreamed of for so long. But with a man like Nicholas, seduction is only the beginning of a sensual journey that will tempt them both to defy convention, and uncover the very heart of desire . . .

Here is the description from the publisher’s site: |

THEY WERE TOGETHER FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS . . .

Isabel knows such a charming rake will never appeal to her guarded heart, nor will she sway his philandering one. It is a most agreeable sham . . . until a shocking turn of events sends Gerard from her side.
Now, four years later, Gerard has come home to Isabel. But the carefree, boyish rogue who left has been replaced by a brooding, powerful, irresistible man who is determined to seduce his way into her affections. Gone is the devil-may-care companion who shared her friendship and nothing more, and in his place is temptation itself . . . a husband who desires Isabel body and soul and who will stop at nothing to win her love. No, this is not at all the man she had married. But he is the man who might finally steal her heart . . .

Hey Renee! I really love Sylvia Day’s historicals. I read the Stranger I Married last year or the year before. She always brings on a tear or two! There are still two of her historicals I haven’t read yet.

Barbara | August 3, 2009 at 6:47 am
I should know better than to read your blog! Because now I have several more books to add to my To Read list! I have been eyeing those Greywalker books, now i”m gonna have to break down and buy them. Same for the Vampire Academy ones. OR at least get them at the library. I think I’m going to have to start all over with the Anna Strong books because it’s been so long since I read the first one, I barely remember it. I just ordered the 1st of the Alpha/Omega series from amazon, so I’m looking forward to that.

nath | August 3, 2009 at 8:25 am
I’m thinking of getting the Sylvia Day because Ames enjoyed it so much
I’m definitively getting Hunting Ground!
Can’t wait for it to be released.
Hmmm, The Drowning City sounds good also, thanks for putting it on my radar
and how much are you enjoying the Kat Richardson series? I thought of getting it, but at that time, it was trade-size and so, expensive.

Hilcia | August 3, 2009 at 8:39 am
The Drowning City is a book I’ve had on my list for a while. Dreamfever I’ll be reading, but closer to the release of the last book… I’m waiting on that one.

Renee | August 3, 2009 at 8:44 am
AmyC: I haven’t read either the SJ Day or the Sylvia Day, books, though they are both on my lists. I love the description for this historical. I almost didn’t include it, since it’s a re-release, but couldn’t leave it off the list since it sounds so good!
Barbara: Greywalker starts slow, but really picks up. Also, each book is better than the previous one. (Always a good thing!) The VA books are lots of fun! I’ve listened to them in audio, and they were good productions. Can NOT wait for Alpha & Omega!
nath: Hmm…maybe you can come to my place to play after you read Hunting Ground?
I love the Orbit books! The Drowning City sounds really cool! See what I say to Barbara about Kat Richardson’s books. I’ve really come to love this series. It’s what I think of as a really “traditional” uf, highly influenced by private detective novels (like Dresden Files.)

Wendy | August 3, 2009 at 9:04 am
Sigh, I still have Faefever to read. I even bought it in hard cover right around the release date. And now Dreamfever is coming out this month.
I’m sick. Truly sick.

bookdaze | August 3, 2009 at 1:35 pm
We don’t have a massive amount of overlap this month! I want the Briggs (love love love the cover) and Mead books as well, but I think that’s it.
Ummm I don’t have my list handy, but IIRC, Sherwood Smith is releasing the fourth and final book in her Inda series – this is one of the very few epic-type fantasy series I’m still reading. Oh, and Diana Peterfreund’s new YA “Rampant” is coming out – I am all over that.

oh i’ve never read any Sylvia Day before, the the premise of her new release is really intriguing! for the most part i like to be there for the “meet cute” and follow the H/H from the beginning, but every now and then i like reading books that visit married couples finding love later in their relationship
9.
Mandi | August 3, 2009 at 3:41 pm
All of those books look good! Darn!
Most of all, Dreamfever!!!!!!!!! (Hunting Ground close second!)
10.
Renee | August 3, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Wendy: It’s a great series. I actually just listened to Faefever a week or so ago. It was really great, but left things on a cliff hanger, so I’m really glad that I don’t have that long to wait for Dreamfever.
Li: I haven’t heard of Sherwood Smith before! Hmm…Rampant, huh? Gotta check them out!
Lusty Reader: Totally brings to mind Private Arrangements by Sherry Thomas when you put it like that!
Yeah, I’m a sucker for the marriage of convenience trope. And, the tortured hero, so the Sylvia Day book’s got win all over it for me! lol
Mandi: lol. Such a KMM fan! Dark Highlander audiobook is waiting at the library for me to pick it up. I’m looking forward to reading that series for the first time!
11.
Wendy | August 3, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Oooh, a cliffhanger? Maybe it’s a good thing I waited.
I read the first book thanks to the reviewing gig I used to have and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it (KMM’s Highlander books didn’t do it for me). I liked book two, but kinda felt like it was a place holder. I’m hoping for more forward movement in the series with FeaFever and Dreamfever.
Soon. I really need to read it soon…..

Renee
Sure, I’m willing to come over to your place for Hunting Ground
By the way, what do you think of a three-way joint review for Drowning City?
13.
Renee | August 3, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Wendy: Yes, I was very surprised. I’ve already got Dreamfever audiobook on library request!
Hope you get to them.
nath: Right on! I’ll be in touch.
Ooh, very interesting. Let’s talk on email!

So many books and my TBR list is sulking
I can’t wait to read Hunting Ground (I adore Bran) and seeing the fourth Greywalker book on your list has reminded me that I need to read the third (I ‘suggested’ it to my library as they didn’t seem to be moving on purchasing it, and I think it’s a great series).

Christine | August 10, 2009 at 11:18 am
Great list. I forgot that the anthology Unbound was coming out this month.
I can’t wait for Hunting Ground! I hope there is more depth to the relationship between Anna and Charles in this installment. I love Anna.
