May 4, 2010: White Cat (The Curse Workers series, book 1) by Holly Black

Here is a book description:

White CatCassel comes from a family of curse workers — people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they’re all mobsters, or con artists. Except for Cassel. He hasn’t got the magic touch, so he’s an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail — he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.
Ever since, Cassel has carefully built up a façade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his façade starts crumbling when he starts sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He’s noticing other disturbing things, too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him, caught up in a mysterious plot. As Cassel begins to suspect he’s part of a huge con game, he also wonders what really happened to Lila. Could she still be alive? To find that out, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.

A grisly discovery throws the two men together, and Holden finds his world turned inside out—by his inappropriate longing for his awkward, young employee, Adam Morgan, and by a threat growing around them both. It is nearly graduation, and the girls can’t wait for their real lives beyond the Academy’s iron gates to begin. But Rose’s heart still aches for Dimitri, and he’s out there, somewhere.

May 18, 2010: Shade (Generation Ghost series, book 1) by Jerri Smith Ready

Here is a book description:

ShadeBest. Birthday. Ever. At least, it was supposed to be. With Logan’s band playing a critical gig and Aura’s plans for an intimate after-party, Aura knows it will be the most memorable night of her boyfriend’s life. She never thought it would be his last.
Logan’s sudden death leaves Aura devastated. He’s gone. Well, sort of.
Like everyone born after the Shift, Aura can see and hear ghosts. This mysterious ability has always been annoying, and Aura had wanted nothing more than to figure out why the Shift happened so she can undo it. But not with Logan’s violet-hued spirit still hanging around. Because dead Logan is almost as real as ever. Almost.
It doesn’t help that Aura’s new friend Zachary is so understanding—and so very alive. His support means more to Aura than she cares to admit.
As Aura’s relationships with the dead and the living grow ever complicated, so do her feelings for Logan and Zachary. Each holds a piece of Aura’s heart…and clues to the secret of the Shift.

OK, so I totally averted my eyes while formatting the descriptions for Kiss of Death and Spirit Bound, since I’m behind on both those series. I think I may have to take a page out of Tracy’s book, and have my own “finish the series” challenge.

I’m really excited about White Cat, about which I read such great things at The Book Smugglers. I’ve got the audiobook on request from the library, and hope it comes in soon!

The book I know I’ll be buying today (on its release day) is In and Out. I can’t get enough of the Men of Smithfield! :-) ETA: As Chris has pointed out in the comments, I seem to not know what date it is. I think the kid’s little league dramas have drained what’s left of my tenuous hold on sanity.

Did I miss any books coming out this month that you’re looking forward to?

I’m really looking forward to In and Out too, although I still have to read Cover Me. I just don’t like to have no books left to read from my favorite authors :) So when In and Out is available I can read Cover Me ;)

Oh, I liked the summary of White Cat when I read it (the summary) earlier this year, and I still like it! Must visit The Book Smugglers (where I haven’t been for ages :( ) and read the review.

I gave up on the Vampire Academy books earlier this year (yes, I am insane), but feel free to tell me what happens :) I want to know (just not enough to wade through them, which I’m sad to say is how it feels.)

In and Out sounds good IMO!
And I too am hanging out for Magic Bleeds. That’s one series I’m up-to-date with ATM :)

      It’s a good review!

I really liked listening to the VA audiobks, but have had other ones I’d rather buy. I’ll get back to them eventually (and let you know!) :-)

I usually read both MoS and Kate Daniels series as soon as they’re out!
