July 2010 Book Releases, part 1

I seem to be chronically behind, lately. We’ll just blame it on summer, and leave it at that! :-P

Here are the books released the first 2 weeks of July.

July 2, 2010: Wings of Equity by Sean Kennedy

Here is a book description:

Wings of EquityThe truth is that those who make a difference usually get martyred. What good are you dead?
Ezra Kneebone is most at home in the skies, piloting his airship with his best friend Jazz, even if it doesn’t quite pay the bills or warm Ezra’s empty bed. Those same skies are also the territory of a man known as Icarus, who uses his metal wings to steal from the rich and feed the poor. Icarus and Ezra could be soul mates but for one thing: Icarus has a bounty on his head, and Ezra is desperate for money.
Against the wishes of Jazz and her partner, the formidable Lady Bart, Ezra is determined to get his man… in more ways than one. But when Icarus saves Ezra’s life, Ezra realizes he would be betraying a hero—and his heart—if he turned Icarus in. Unfortunately, the bounty is tempting more than one hunter, and Ezra will find that loving a fugitive may mean becoming one too.

Here is the description from the author’s site:

Insatiable With tensions between the Federation and Imperial ‘Verses rising, one woman may hold the key to victory. The dangerous mission to smuggle her out of Imperial Territory falls to Daniel Haws and his team, the ultra secret Phantom Corps. This elite squad of the Federation Military is the only one trusted and skilled enough to remove her from under the watchful eye of her father, the Supreme Commander of the Imperial ‘Verses.
Carina is used to wearing a mask. Her father and his men think her little more than a pretty prize to be won by a man more ruthless than the rest. When he announces his intention to marry her to one of his henchmen, a man known for his cruelty, Carina knows she has to move as soon as possible to get out. But getting secret information to the Federation has served her well for years and she appeals to them for help.
She expected rescue from a man who’d been her enemy. But she wasn’t prepared for just how intense her attraction to Daniel Haws would be. Born as adversaries into different ranks, and on the run for their lives, they now need each other to survive–by holding on to the only thing they have in common: a growing desire that is dangerous, irresistible, and insatiable…

Isabella resists, but when she agrees to pose for erotic paintings he’s been working on, she realizes her body has never stopped craving her husband’s very skilled touch. Mac is determined to show Isabella that he’s a changed man, but three years without her has only increased his hunger for her.

July 13, 2010: Tongues of Serpents (Temeraire series, book 6) by Naomi Novik.

Here is a book description:

Tongues of SerpentsConvicted of treason despite their heroic defense against Napoleon’s invasion of England, Temeraire and Laurence—stripped of rank and standing—have been transported to the prison colony at New South Wales in distant Australia, where, it is hoped, they cannot further corrupt the British Aerial Corps with their dangerous notions of liberty for dragons. Temeraire and Laurence carry with them three dragon eggs intended to help establish a covert in the colony and destined to be handed over to such second-rate, undesirable officers as have been willing to accept so remote an assignment—including one former acquaintance, Captain Rankin, whose cruelty once cost a dragon its life.
Nor is this the greatest difficulty that confronts the exiled dragon and rider: Instead of leaving behind all the political entanglements and corruptions of the war, Laurence and Temeraire have instead sailed into a hornet’s nest of fresh complications. For the colony at New South Wales has been thrown into turmoil after the overthrow of the military governor, one William Bligh—better known as Captain Bligh, late of HMS Bounty. Bligh wastes no time in attempting to enlist Temeraire and Laurence to restore him to office, while the upstart masters of the colony are equally determined that the new arrivals should not upset a balance of power precariously tipped in their favor.
Eager to escape this political quagmire, Laurence and Temeraire take on a mission to find a way through the forbidding Blue Mountains and into the interior of Australia. But when one of the dragon eggs is stolen from Temeraire, the surveying expedition becomes a desperate race to recover it in time—a race that leads to a shocking discovery and a dangerous new obstacle in the global war between Britain and Napoleon.

I like a series… but I think most of them should stop before they do. Still enjoying the Dresden Files, although, since the latest book is supposed to be a cliffhanger, I’m not going to read it until the next book is out. I’m a bit hateful about cliffhangers. :)

I hear ya! That’s something I have to admit, I’ve appreciated about a few “trilogy” and “quartet” structured series.

However, yes! Dresden Files still has the mojo, and Changes was JB’s best yet, imo. I didn’t know it was a cliffhanger going in, but really, the main story itself was resolved. It was more of a Quantum Leap style cliffhanger.

I’ve been hoarding KMM’s latest Blood series book, Gail Carriger’s Changeless, and Rachel Caine’s last couple of Morganville Vampire books for the exact same reason.

KMM lost me on a really evil cliffhanger. Done! :)

Great list Renee! I’m glad you enjoyed the Phantom Corps book, that cover is so enticing. I also knew about a couple of the other ones but the rest are new to me!

I love your new releases posts Renee as I never know when certain books are being released. Am looking forward to Bonds of Justice. And…I loved Sean Kennedy’s Tigers and Devils so am tempted to risk the steampunk genre to read it…

Thanks! Oh, I still have to read/finish Blaze of Memory. I can’t believe I let myself fall behind.

Yes, I still have SK’s Dash and Dingo, but will probably get to WoE before it.

So glad to hear the Amy Lane is that good! :-)

Amy Lane is oh so good – I adore KPR! Kris was raving chatting about another of her books that sounds fantastic, but the title eludes me :(

I’m a bit hateful about cliffhangers.

Ditto. Don’t get me started. Just watched the final episode of SGU (which has had numerous cliffhangers through the first season) and…well, let’s just say I wasn’t surprised about the cliffhanger, but if people don’t die then I will be surprised…well, maybe not. No one seems to really die in the SG franchise :)

Hope you enjoy Bonds of Justice. I forgot all about the Ashley book… I should get that one too, lol!

Yes! I think you’ll really like it! Book 2, Relentless is my favorite, I think.

Gonna catch up with PsyChangeling this week and read Blaze of Memory so I can get to Bonds of Justice.

Hmmm, Demon Blood by Meljean Brook? Not interested?

Bonds of Justice was good, but I’m waiting for the next one Play of Passion :D That one is going to rock :)

Are you getting Tongue of Serpents? I’m not sure…. I love Temeraire and Laurence, but the storylines are getting heavy…

I’ve only read the first Guardian, so it’s sort of off my radar. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do!

I’ll probably get Tongues of Serpents in audio from the library, so it might be a while before I get to it. Yeah, the last one was pretty heavy, but I’m sort of thinking maybe this new one is sort of a clean slate/fresh start for Will and Temeraire.
