October 2010 Releases, part 2

These are the books that will be released over the last half of October. There’s a good variety of genres coming out over the next couple of weeks.
October 18, 2010: |
|
Hunger (Horsemen of the Apocalypse series, book 1) by Jackie Morse Kessler |
|
I’ve been looking forward to this book for months. After reading the first lines of the description, how could I not want to read more?
Each book in the series will be about a different Horseman. Book 2, Rage will be about the Horseman, War. |

Second Chances by Lauren Dane (Reissue) Published by Carina Press |
|
| Scroll down linked page for excerpt. |
![]() |
| I love Lauren Dane’s writing, and I’ve been working my way through her backlist. Second Chances is revised from an earlier novel. I like the “small town girl returns and deals with her past” plot, and this one sounds like it has some good twists. I also really like this cover. (Woman with curves! Yay!) |

October 26, 2010: |
|
Side Jobs (A Dresden Files anthology) by Jim Butcher |
|
| This is a collection of Harry Dresden stories that have been featured in a variety of anthologies over the years, as well as a new novella.Even though I’ve read most of the previously published stories, I can never get enough of Harry, and am really looking forward to finding out what happened to Harry right after the conclusion of Changes, the last Dresden Files book. | ![]() |
October 26, 2010: |
|
Ghost Town (Morganville Vampires series, book 9) by Rachel Caine |
|
| Excerpt on author’s site. |
![]() |
| This YA series is always a fun, quick, and easy read. I’m 3 behind at the moment, but since they are short novels that each end on cliff hangers (usually in 3-book story arcs) I never mind letting a few pile up and then bingeing. At the end of the last book, Claire was in a pretty tight spot with the evil vampire Bishop, so I’m eager to jump back in a catch up! | |
October 29, 2010: |
|
Dudleytown by LB Gregg |
|
| Excerpt on author’s site. |
![]() |
| I always enjoy LB’s fast, funny, sexy writing, and can’t wait to read Dudleytown.
The forced intimacy of a roommates story is one of my favorites — 2 people in necessarily close proximity, sexual tension rising… Alex and his (straight?) roommate Shannon find themselves in the creepy forest searching for their missing friend. Doesn’t this sound like a great set up for the perfect Halloween-romance? |

|
Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor (Friday Harbor series, book 1) by Lisa Kleypas |
|
| Excerpt on author’s site. | ![]() |
| I love Lisa Kleypas’ contemporaries. Well, for that matter I love her historicals as well. This story of a widow making a fresh start and a man who is raising his niece in the Pacific Northwest, sounds like it’s going to be tugging at the heartstrings. | |
(This seems to have come out sometime this past month, and somehow I totally missed it!)October 2010:
|
|
Blood Heat (Dangerous Ground series, book 3) by Josh Lanyon (LooseID) |
|
| Excerpt on author’s site. | ![]() |
| Josh Lanyon is an auto-buy author for me, and I like this series about 2 government agents, feeling their way through the beginnings of the relationship.Blood Heat continues their story, and adds new challenges for the personally and professionally.
I really like how the first book in the series didn’t just end with their happily ever after and subsequent books show them as the perfect couple. Taylor and Will are still learning how to be a couple, both in private and in public. This dynamic makes for as interesting reading as Lanyon’s typical compelling suspense storyline. |
|
It’s funny because as I look over the above list, I can’t help but really see why I find myself entering a brick and mortar book store so much less often lately. I’ve already requested Butcher and Kleypas from the library and when I catch up with the Morganville Vampire series that will also probably be a library book. The Dane, Gregg and Lanyon books will be ebook purchases. That really only leaves the Kessler book to be purchased (possibly) in print. I used to wait anxiously for Tuesdays to hit the bookstores, but lately…not so much. I’ve been noticing this trend more and more over the last year.
How about you? Have your purchasing habits changed recently?

Ohhh, I almost forgot Side Jobs was coming out this month ^_^; Luckily, I’ve already ask that a copy be put aside for me
You think the story will really be about Harry, or it might be another character?
I’m still buying a lot in print at the bookstore. What I did notice though is that publishers seem to have grouped their release date more at the beginning of the month and at the end of the month… which means that in the middle of the month, there’s a lot less

According to the description at Fantastic Fiction (which I’m assuming is the back cover copy) the novella is the events right after the cliffhanger.
Huh, I haven’t noticed the release dates. I’ll have to look over my upcoming releases list now…

I have added Hunger to my TBR list after reading the author’s self-interview at The Book Smugglers. It sounds fascinating. Oh, and I do love that Lauren Dane cover – I must try her books and I must read more Josh Lanyon! (Am thinking of having a m/m reading session this weekend, but one of Amy Lane’s books is at the top of the list
BTW, did you hear about the Lynn Flewelling anthology? Not sure when it is out thought…
As for purchasing, I still get the majority of my books from the library; I do purchase my m/m books (in eBook format

I’ve been on a thing about ambiguous heroines, and this seems to be right in there!
I’d highly recommend Lauren’s Federation series. Relentless, especially, is a favorite of mine!
Yes! I bought Glimspes, but haven’t read it yet! I LOVE the premise she used for writing the stories. (Fan fic of her own series.)
Yes, I do own just a few m/m in print, but the vast majority is in ebook!

Going to see if I can find the Kleypas, it would be great since Xmas is coming up.
Loved the bit on Hunger and the parallels of famine to her anorexic figure says it all.

Renee, it’s tough to find that balance. And remembering that the love of reading is the main reason for my blogging is what keeps me going.
I have to try reading Clockwork Heart again. I loved The Iron Duke and hope you enjoy it as much as I did. But, I remember that I began reading Pagliasotti’s book and I wasn’t in the mood for it at the time. It’s back in my TBR… hmm… must try it again.
Definitely reading Simply Irresistible!
